Record #211986:

Seafloor grooves record the beat of the ice ages: sea level changes influence the underwater eruptions that build abyssal hills / Eric Hand.

Title: Seafloor grooves record the beat of the ice ages: sea level changes influence the underwater eruptions that build abyssal hills / Eric Hand.
Author(s): Hand, Eric.
Date: 2015.
Publisher: [Washington, DC]: American Association for the Advancement of Science
Abstract: Describes bathymetric data gathered in 2011 and 2013 across spreading ridge south of Tasmania, which when correlated with climate cycles suggests that drop in sea level during ice ages resulted in reduced mantle pressure and consequent increased delivery of magma to seafloor surface, producing abyssal hills. Also relates heightened seafloor eruptions to atmospheric warming which ends ice ages.
