| Abstract: | Investigates effects of date of snowmelt and lemming density on number of nests, egg-laying date, and nesting success of snowy owls (Bubo scandiacus). Lemmings comprise more than 95% of summer diet of snowy owls , and number of nests and nesting success vary annually with lemming density. Mean egg-laying date and clutch size vary annually, but appear not to be affected by timing of snowmelt or lemming density. |
