| Abstract: | Presents results of chemical analyses of snow samples from five pits and cores drilled in vicinity of Vostok station, Antarctica. High resolution ion measurements (every 2-3 cm, representing approximately three samples per year) provide detailed record of volcanic events for past 900 years. Thirty low latitude volcanic eruptions were identified between 13th-20th centuries, in core intervals with high content of non-marine sulphates and decreased acidity. |
