Отечественные сейсмические, радиолокационные и сейсмологические исследования подледникового озера Восток

Title: Отечественные сейсмические, радиолокационные и сейсмологические исследования подледникового озера Восток
Title, transliterated: Otechestvennye seĭsmicheskie, radiolokat︠s︡ionnye i seĭsmologicheskie issledovanii︠a︡ podlednikovogo ozera Vostok / S.V. Popov, and 3 others.
Translated title: National seismic, radar and seismological studies of subglacial Lake Vostok.
Author(s): Popov, S. V.
Date: 2012.
Language: Russian.
In: Led i Sneg. (2012.), Vol. 4(120) (2012)
Abstract: Presents overview of geophysical investigations in Vostok region of Antarctic pre-1993, and describes systematic study post-1995 using seismic survey and radio-echo sounding techniques. Results of 318 seismic sounding and 5,190 km of radio-echo profiles had been amassed by 2008 when more precise measurements in area around 5G-1 borehole showed error of less than 0.3%. Russian researchers discovered existence of Lake Vostok and established its borders, average depth, water volume, and thickness of bottom sediments. They also discovered 56 smaller bodies of subglacial water in vicinity of Lake Vostok, and compiled maps showing ice thickness, ice base and bedrock topography.
