Record #211480:

Marine accessibility along Russia's Northern Sea Route / Scott R. Stephenson, Lawson W. Brigham, Lawrence C. Smith.

Title: Marine accessibility along Russia's Northern Sea Route / Scott R. Stephenson, Lawson W. Brigham, Lawrence C. Smith.
Author(s): Stephenson, Scott R.
Brigham, Lawson W.
Smith, Lawrence C.
Date: 2014.
In: Polar Geography. (2014.), Vol. 37(2) (2014)
Abstract: Studies Northern Sea Route (NSR) as seasonal trade route for shipping Arctic natural resources to global markets. Focuses on changing marine access because of retreat of Arctic sea ice during past three decades. Quantifies length and variability of NSR navigation season as constrained by both sea ice and bathymetry over next 15 years. Presents simulations of accessibility to Russian maritime Arctic by Polar Class and non-ice-strengthened vessels based on daily projections of sea ice concentration and thickness averaged for 2013-17. Focuses on sailing route north of Novosibirskiye Ostrova (New Siberian Islands)
