| Abstract: | Assesses feasibility of using new SnowPaver, single unit consisting of levelling blades, milling unit and vibratory plate compactor, to build snow roads in Antarctica. SnowPaver was used at McMurdo Station in 2010-11 to construct snow pavement sections which were monitored for snow-road strength and vehicle rutting, and also used to rework and compact old and slushy snow in warm season. Also evaluates 2012 upgrade and provides economic analysis of SnowPaver use. |
