Abstract: | Studies how nomadic Evenki move within their territory, and how they describe and understand it. Evenki system of orientation is conceived and organised around local waterways, and also serves as reference point for kinship relationships and social status. Rivers are symbolic means of communication linking worlds, peoples and spirits, as well as polarities of life and death. |
