Record #211016:

Antarctic camps snow drift management handbook / Robert Haehnel, John Weatherly.

Title: Antarctic camps snow drift management handbook / Robert Haehnel, John Weatherly.
Author(s): Haehnel, Robert.
Weatherly, John.
Date: 2014.
In: ERDC/CRREL Technical Report. (2014.), TR-14-21 (2014)
Abstract: Provides methods to estimate severity of drifting snow problem at proposed or existing camp location, according to wind direction and magnitude, and snow transport; also methods to ameliorate it such as berms, snow fences and windbreaks. Guidelines proposed apply to camps where winds are predominantly from one direction, typical of Antarctic continent. Includes case study demonstrating method outlined for assessing severity of drifting snow problem. Shows how to estimate volume of snow deposited and gives examples of effort required to install and manage protection systems.
