Record #211007:
Detection of melt ponds on Arctic sea ice with optical satellite data / Anja Rösel.
Title: | Detection of melt ponds on Arctic sea ice with optical satellite data / Anja Rösel. |
Author(s): | Rösel, Anja. |
Date: | 2013. |
Publisher: | Heidelberg: Springer |
Abstract: | Uses satellite observations to examine how Arctic-wide melt pond fractions have developed spatially and temporally from 2000-11. Uses analysis of data from multi-spectral optical sensors to discriminate between snow, ice and water. Points out influence of surface melting on sea ice concentration retrievals from passive microwave sensors, which give results up to 40% lower than with Moderate Resolution Image Spectroradiometer (MODIS). |
