Record #210835:
Facies and stratigraphical analysis / Thomas R. Lakeman, John H. England.
Title: | Facies and stratigraphical analysis / Thomas R. Lakeman, John H. England. |
Author(s): | Lakeman, Thomas R. England, John H. |
Date: | 2014. |
In: | Boreas. (2014.), Vol. 43(4) (2014) |
Abstract: | Re-examines stratigraphy and sedimentology at Morgan Bluffs, one of four principal stratigraphical exposures on Banks Island previously used to establish regional climatostratigraphical framework. Detailed facies analysis of sediments and new stratigrapical framework are incompatible with many climatostratigraphical units previously proposed. Instead, three distinct intervals of sedimentation are recognised: progradation of delta, followed by fluvial aggradation of braided river valley (~1 Ma); galacigenic sedimentation (more than 0.78 Ma); and till deposition by NW Laurentide Ice Sheet during Late Wisconsinan, followed by progradation of deglacial, ice-contact delta into ice-dammed lake (~12.8 cal. ka BP). |
Notes: | Boreas. Vol. 43(4) :895-913 (2014). |
