Economic analysis of the South Pole Traverse / James H. Lever, Paul Thur.

Title: Economic analysis of the South Pole Traverse / James H. Lever, Paul Thur.
Author(s): Lever, James H.
Thur, Paul.
Date: 2014.
In: ERDC/CRREL Technical Report. (2014.), TR-14-7 (2014)
Abstract: Cost-benefit analysis of use of sleds instead of aircraft for resupply trips from McMurdo Station, Antarctica to Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station between 2008-11. Costs include capital and operating expenses, and benefits include reduced air emissions, ability to transport outsize or overweight cargo, and availability of aircraft for other purposes. Benefits can be enhanced through increased sled efficiency and use of black instead of tan transport bladder sleds.
