Record #210756:

Trophic dynamics of the boreal forests of the Kluane region / Charles J. Krebs, and 8 others.

Title: Trophic dynamics of the boreal forests of the Kluane region / Charles J. Krebs, and 8 others.
Author(s): Krebs, Charles J.
Date: 2014.
In: Arctic. (2014.), Vol. 67(suppl.1) (2014)
Abstract: Reports results of observation and experimentation relating to major species (except large mammals) in Yukon boreal forest ecosystem. Aim is to determine causes of 9-10 year cycle of snowshoe hares (Lepus americanus). Finds that hare cycle is driven "top-down" by predators. Predators cause stress in female hares, and stress response seems to account for loss of reproductive potential in decline and low phases of hare cycle. Many specialist predators and some herbivores in ecosystem fluctuate with hare cycle.
