Record #210755:
Paleoenvironmental studies in southwestern Yukon / Konrad Gajewski, and 4 others.
Title: | Paleoenvironmental studies in southwestern Yukon / Konrad Gajewski, and 4 others. |
Author(s): | Gajewski, Konrad. |
Date: | 2014. |
In: | Arctic. (2014.), Vol. 67(suppl.1) (2014) |
Abstract: | Summarises palaeoenvironmental studies in region centered on Kluane Lake and Shakwak Trench, south-western Yukon, focusing on data collected along or near Alaska Highway and Haines Road. Notes that boreal forest, established approx. 10,000 years ago, has not varied greatly over time; but it is not yet clear whether stability is due to relatively steady climate or to resilient vegetation. Climate variability has affected ecosystems during past 10,000 years; e.g., warming climate made region hospitable for growth of spruce (Picea glauca). |
Notes: | Arctic. Vol. 67(suppl.1) :58-70 (2014). Special issue: The Kluane Lake Research Station : 50 years of northern science. |
