Abstract: Describes recovery in 2001-02 of suite of cores from icefields of central St Elias Mountains, Yukon, by teams of Canadian researchers supported by Kluane Lake Research Station. Project lead to development of parallel, long (10³-10⁴ year) ice-core records of climate change over altitudinal range of more than 2 km, from Eclipse icefield (3,071 m) to ice-covered plateau of Mt Logan (5,340 m). Reviews major scientific findings from study of St Elias Mountains ice cores, focusing on: stable isotope record; snow accumulation history; record of pollen, biomass burning aerosol, and desert dust deposition; record of long-range air pollutant deposition; and record of palaeo-volcanism.
