Global movement and homogenisation of biota: challenges to the environmental management of Antarctica? / Kevin A. Hughes, Peter Convey, Ad H.L. Huiskes.

Title: Global movement and homogenisation of biota: challenges to the environmental management of Antarctica? / Kevin A. Hughes, Peter Convey, Ad H.L. Huiskes.
Author(s): Hughes, Kevin A.
Convey, Peter.
Huiskes, Ad H. L.
Date: 2014.
Publisher: Dordrecht: Springer
In: Antarctic futures : human engagement with the Antarctic environment. (2014.),
Abstract: Discusses changes in ecology of sub-Antarctic islands following introduction of invasive species, including vertebrates, invertebrates and plants. Notes low but increasing numbers of non-native species on Antarctic continent. Examines pertinent legislation laid down in Antarctic Treaty and associated instruments such as 1991 Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty (Madrid Protocol). Itemises vectors and pathways for propagule introduction including visitors, cargo and fresh produce, and assesses impacts of sewage disposal. Considers future, including implementation of biosecurity measures, management of tourism, increased population of Antarctica, and climate change.
Notes:

In: Antarctic futures : human engagement with the Antarctic environment / Tina Tin, and 3 others.
