Arctic petroleum resources in a regional and global perspective / Dag Harald Claes, Arild Moe.
Title: | Arctic petroleum resources in a regional and global perspective / Dag Harald Claes, Arild Moe. |
Author(s): | Claes, Dag Harald. Moe, Arild. |
Date: | 2014. |
Publisher: | London: Routledge |
In: | Geopolitics and security in the Arctic : regional dynamics in a global world. (2014.), |
Abstract: | Overview of Arctic oil and gas production, concentrating on Russia, Alaska and Norway. Concludes that amount of oil and gas available for commercial extraction is uncertain and that other factors, including cost, climate and lack of infrastructure, are potential obstacles to any large-scale development. Although Arctic resources are central to energy production in region as whole, there is little conflict between countries relating to oil and gas activity, but internal disputes are emerging within individual states. These chiefly relate to environmental issues and effect of oil and gas production on other industries, particularly fishing. |
