Record #210236:

Comparing growth and maturity of sympatric Atlantic (Gadus morhua) and Greenland (Gadus ogac) cod in coastal Newfoundland / D.C. Knickle, G.A. Rose.

Title: Comparing growth and maturity of sympatric Atlantic (Gadus morhua) and Greenland (Gadus ogac) cod in coastal Newfoundland / D.C. Knickle, G.A. Rose.
Author(s): Knickle, D. C.
Rose, G. A.
Date: 2013.
Publisher: [Ottawa]: [NRC Research]
Abstract: Examines growth and maturity of two sympatric gadids, based on sample of 48 Atlantic (Gadus morhua) and 42 Greenland (Gadus ogac) cod collected from inshore area of Trinity Bay, Newfoundland, during 2009 and 2010. Demonstrates that sympatric G. morhua and G. ogac in coastal areas of Newfoundland have similar growth rates up to age 6 or 7. However, species exhibit very different maturation rates that may result in decrease in direct resource competition and assist coexistence.
