Record #209718:

Firn air depletion as a precursor of Antarctic ice-shelf collapse / Peter Kuipers Munneke, and 3 others.

Title: Firn air depletion as a precursor of Antarctic ice-shelf collapse / Peter Kuipers Munneke, and 3 others.
Author(s): Munneke, Peter Kuipers.
Date: 2014.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (2014.), Vol. 60(220) (2014)
Abstract: Uses firn model to examine role of low density firn layer near ice shelf surface in providing buffer against hydrofracturing of ice shelves of Antarctic Peninsula. Model shows that pore space was depleted in firn layer of former ice shelves, permitting meltwater ingress and enabling their collapse.
