Housing issues in Nuuk (Greenland) and how to get students involved / Jane Buus Sørensen, Ulla Willumsen.
Title: | Housing issues in Nuuk (Greenland) and how to get students involved / Jane Buus Sørensen, Ulla Willumsen. |
Author(s): | Sørensen, Jane Buus. Willumsen, Ulla. |
Date: | 2013. |
In: | Études Inuit = Inuit Studies. (2013.), Vol. 37(1) (2013) |
Abstract: | Discusses housing policy in Nuuk, Greenland, which is characterised by disparity, undemocratic decision-making, and lack of open, frank debate. Argues that, although city council's housing policy has to take needs of all citizens into account, less affluent Greenlanders find it difficult to influence policy-making. Suggest ways in which students can be encouraged to become curious about and critical of urban development in Greenlandic society and introduces Quantum GIS programme as potential tool for gathering data about land-use and planning. |
