Abstract: Explores process of international cooperation within scientific community in wartime, focusing on Austrian Felix König, member of Filchner's 1911-12 Antarctic expedition, whose own plans for expedition to Weddell Sea region were abandoned on outbreak of First World War. König was captured by Russians in 1915 and spent remainder of war in Siberia in POW camp in Krasnoyarsk, despite persistent attempts by his mother and many prominent polar scientists and explorers to arrange prisoner exchange.
