| Abstract: | Examines history of official motion picture record of Mawson's 1911-14 Antarctic expedition. Includes discussion of its role as primary documentation of expedition; as artefact of Edwardian popular culture; and as part of history of preservation of moving images in Australia. Released as documentary film Home of the Blizzard it acquired significant identity in popular national cultural and social history narrative, though iconography of film as released has become widely disassociated from actual social and film histories of original footage. |
