Abstract: Analyses British and Argentine submarine operations during 1982 Falklands War, using published sources, unpublished papers, unclassified government documents and interviews with officers involved. Examines benefits of fully integrating submarines into military forces, and the multiplier effect of their presence, or perceived presence. Main weaknesses were lack of training, and problems operating in high ambient noise, shallow water environment. Emphasises importance of intelligence in submarine warfare.
