Record #209314:

Feeding strategies of zooplankton in a High Arctic freshwater system / Matteo Cazzanelli, and 4 others.

Title: Feeding strategies of zooplankton in a High Arctic freshwater system / Matteo Cazzanelli, and 4 others.
Author(s): Cazzanelli, Matteo.

Abstract: Outlines research project testing hypothesis that algae and associated bacteria in benthos can provide key support to zooplankton biomass in shallow High Arctic freshwater ecosystem. Uses stable isotope analysis to investigate food web interactions in Pond 19 at Zackenberg Research Station, north-east Greenland, during late August 2009. Preliminary results suggest that benthic carbon sources can potentially provide major support to zooplankton biomass, where water column resources are often limited by depletion of nutrients.
