Record #209308:

The Greenland seed bug, Nysius groenlandicus: is sex necessary? / Jens Böcher, Gösta Nachman.

Title: The Greenland seed bug, Nysius groenlandicus: is sex necessary? / Jens Böcher, Gösta Nachman.
Author(s): Böcher, Jens.
Nachman, Gösta.
Date: 2010.
Publisher: Roskilde: Aarhus University
In: Zackenberg Ecological Research Operations : 15th Annual Report 2009. (2010.),
Abstract: Investigates possibility that Nysius groenlandicus (Heteroptera: Lygaeidae), polyphagous seed-feeder with almost ubiquitous distribution in Greenland, reproduces both sexually and asexually. Identifies wide variation in sex ratio among 44 Greenlandic localities, from almost equal proportions of sexes to purely female populations. Results are in agreement with general life-history theory stating that populations living in variable and unpredictable environments need to maintain high genetic variability by reproducing sexually.
