| Abstract: | Addresses consequences of market development and reorganisation of enterprises in forest industry in post-Soviet era for local and regional development and their impact on local communities. Scrutinises processes that followed dissolution of territorial production complexes (TPC) in forest sector of Kareliya. Examines transition in four case studies: forestry villages of Matrosy and Koivuselga; pulp mill community of Pitkiaranta; forest tractor factory of Petrozavodsk; tractor factory in St Petersburg. Analyses community relations, local economies and daily lives. Notes that development paths of different communities are very uneven and fragmented. |
