Record #209150:
Double-diffusive recipes. Part II: layer-merging events / T. Radko, and 3 others.
Title: | Double-diffusive recipes. Part II: layer-merging events / T. Radko, and 3 others. |
Author(s): | Radko, T. |
Date: | 2014. |
In: | Journal of Physical Oceanography. (2014.), Vol. 44(5) (2014) |
Abstract: | Explores dynamics of thermohaline staircases: well-defined stepped structures in temperature and salinity profiles, commonly observed in regions of active double diffusion. Evolution of staircases is frequently characterised by spontaneous layer-merging event. These phenomena are believed to be essential in regulating equilibrium layer thickness in fully developed staircases. Considers specific examples, including evolution of layers in diffusive staircase in Beaufort Gyre, Arctic Ocean. |
