| Abstract: | Presents historical account of winter feeding of reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) which began before 18th century and involved feeding of bread, lichens or dried forage collected from pastures. Describes how reindeer feeding practices developed with agriculture in 1960s and 1970s and reports on recent experiment studying overall impacts of winter feeding on sub-xeric heath forest during March-April 2009 and 2010. |
