Abstract: Reports that International Maritime Oraganization's (IMO) Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction agreed, in principle, draft text of mandatory code for ships operating in polar waters (Polar Code) and proposed draft amendment to IMO's safety and pollution prevention treaties. Polar Code covers full range of design, construction, equipment, operational, training, search-and-rescue and environmental protection matters relevant to ships operating in polar waters.
