Abstract: Examines questions of Antarctic territorial sovereignty in terms of legitimacy, justice, morality, and realisability; difficulties around existing territorial claims; deferral of claims as consequence of Antarctic Treaty and role of scientific research as surrogate for claims; predicaments of claimant states; and challenges for non-claimants.
