Title: An interdisciplinary approach to documenting knowledge: plants and their uses in southern Greenland / Simone S. Whitecloud, Lenore A. Grenoble.
Author(s): Whitecloud, Simone S.
Grenoble, Lenore A.
Date: 2014.
In: Arctic. (2014.), Vol. 67(1) (2014)
Abstract: Investigates persistence of traditional Inuit knowledge of wild plants and their uses in two communities in southern Greenland: Nanortalik and Qassiarsuk. Documents more than 50 taxa and 205 plant uses in seven broad categories: medicine, beverages, food, herbs and spices, fuel, ritual, and material culture (primarily decorative). Findings indicate that, in southern Greenland, knowledge of plant uses is greater than has been believed.
