Record #208398:

Australian interests, bifocalism, bipartisanship, and the Antarctic Treaty System / Marcus Haward, Nicholas Cooper.

Title: Australian interests, bifocalism, bipartisanship, and the Antarctic Treaty System / Marcus Haward, Nicholas Cooper.
Author(s): Haward, Marcus.
Cooper, Nicholas.
Date: 2014.
In: Polar Record. (2014.), Vol. 50(252) (2014)
Abstract: Uses linked frames of bifocalism and bipartisanship to explore character of domestic political support for Australian Antarctic Territory and Australia's involvement in Antarctic Treaty System, from Australian involvement in Antarctica from 1930s to present. Analysis shows that bipartisan commitment is framed through bifocalism: first, Australian national interests are closely linked to maintenance of Antarctic Treaty and Antarctic Treaty System; and second, presentation of these national interests in not inimical to commitments to Treaty and Treaty System.
