Bridging academia and indigenous environmental science: is it too late? / Brian Rice.

Title: Bridging academia and indigenous environmental science: is it too late? / Brian Rice.
Author(s): Rice, Brian.
Date: 2013.
Publisher: Waterloo, Ont.: Wilfrid Laurier University Press
In: Nature of empires and the empires of nature : indigenous peoples and the Great Lakes environment. (2013.),
Abstract: With particular reference to science, examines domination of Native/Aboriginal/Indigenous (NAI) studies by prevailing Euro-Western scholarship and methodology, showing that inferior status of indigenous scientific knowledge within general academic community causes difficulties for native scholars wishing to work in higher education. Explains why maintenance of indigenous environmental science is necessary both to NAI programmes and to scientific community as whole. Describes evolution of indigenous scientific thinking, finding that, in many areas, it coincides with Euro-Western theories.
