Abstract: Describes monitoring of natural rock slope deformation in chert rock mass in Japan using six surface fracture displacement sensors. Predicts deformation arising from thermal stresses using two-dimensional finite element plane strain analysis coupled with model for rock expansion due to freezing of pore water.
