Abstract: Describes use of two-dimensional finite element model to determine effect of highway embankment on thermal regime of foundation permafrost using historic air temperature data and input parameters derived from literature. Compares model results with temperatures and soil properties measured at two sites in Alaska in 2009. Analyses results to guide future design of embankments.
