Author(s): | Anderson, David G. |
Date: | 2012. |
Publisher: | Walnut Creek, CA: Left Coast Press |
In: | Landscape and culture in Northern Eurasia. (2012.), |
Abstract: | Based on author's ethnographic visits in 1989 and 2004. Examines how everyday practice of Orochen-Evenki is important to understand how they are adapting to tumultuous new political-economic circumstances. Argues that contemporary ritual expressions of 'luck' and reciprocity provide frame through which post-Socialist environment and market conditions can be understood. Contemporary rituals include gifting, feasting, offerings, reindeer sacrifice, mortuary structures and carved idols. |
