Record #206420:

Range constraints for introduced elk in southwest Yukon, Canada / Wayne L. Strong, Jesse H.S. Chambers, Thomas S. Jung.

Title: Range constraints for introduced elk in southwest Yukon, Canada / Wayne L. Strong, Jesse H.S. Chambers, Thomas S. Jung.

Date: 2013.
In: Arctic. (2013.), Vol. 66(4) (2013)
Abstract: Analyses forage availability, snow depths and winter temperatures to determine whether they might impose range constraints on introduced elk (Cervus elaphus) that voluntarily colonised 95 km² area of south-west Yukon. Finds that none of the range factors considered favour elk. Pellet group counts suggest that elk strongly favour graminoid patches as habitat but this vegetation is of very limited extent in core range (Takhini Valley). Expansion of elk into adjacent areas may indicate that population has exceeded carrying capacity of core range.
