Record #206283:
A Bayesian assessment of the conservation status of humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) in the western South Atlantic Ocean / Alexandre N. Zerbini, and 4 others.
Title: | A Bayesian assessment of the conservation status of humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) in the western South Atlantic Ocean / Alexandre N. Zerbini, and 4 others. |
Author(s): | Zerbini, Alexandre N. |
Date: | 2011. |
In: | Journal of Cetacean Research and Management. (2011.), Special Issue 3 (2011) |
Abstract: | Uses deterministic sex and age-aggregated population dynamics model to estimate pre-exploitation population size, maximum net recruitment rate, and maximum depletion level of humpback whales, Megaptera novaeangliae, off eastern coast of South America (Breeding Stock A). Inputs are modern whaling catch series, absolute estimates of abundance, observed growth rates, and indices of relative abundance. Despite three decades of protection, humpback whale population in this area remains low relative to pre-exploitation size. |
