On customary law among the Saami people / Elina Helander-Renvall.

Title: On customary law among the Saami people / Elina Helander-Renvall.
Author(s): Helander-Renvall, Elina.
Date: 2013.
Publisher: Oxford: Hart
In: Proposed Nordic Saami Convention : national and international dimensions of indigenous property rights. (2013.),
Abstract: Discussion of place of Saami customary law within mainstream legal systems in general, focusing on controversial disputes in Tana and Nord-Troms, eastern Finnmark. Conflict between Saami and mainstream society frequently exists because of difficulties in determining traditional law, which may vary between communities, and accommodating it within national legal system. Recognition of customary law as one legal source within national legal system may be one way to proceed.
