| Abstract: | Examines changes in forest matrix from 1953 to 2003 in Oulanka National Park and commercial forests in northern part of municipality of Kuusamo, northern Finland. Changes concerned potential winter grazing grounds available to existing population of reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus). Results support hypothesis that forest matrix transition changed spatial configuration of patches, area of reindeer pastures and, together with increase in reindeer numbers, available pasture per head of reindeer. |
