Record #205465:

On optical and physical properties of sea ice in the Baltic Sea: academic dissertation in geophysics / Jari Uusikivi.

Title: On optical and physical properties of sea ice in the Baltic Sea: academic dissertation in geophysics / Jari Uusikivi.
Author(s): Uusikivi, Jari.
Date: 2013.
In: University of Helsinki. Department of Geophysics. Report Series in Geophysics. (2013.), Vol. 73 (2013)
Abstract: Describes physical and optical properties of landfast ice and pack ice in Baltic Sea, and their influence on biology of sea ice. Includes: study of ice crystal texture using thin sections; study of growth history using stable oxygen isotope (δ¹⁸O) ratios; salinity of ice; measurements of under-ice turbulence using acoustic Doppler 3D current meter; ice thickness distribution and properties, and correlation with air temperature and precipitation; radiative transfer in sea ice including transmittance, albedo, absorption, and scattering. Principal conclusion is that stratigraphy and growth history of sea ice influences vertical distribution of organisms in ice cover.
