Record #205145:

Geoarchaeological importance of sub-Arctic bird perches dated by lee side turf mound accumulation and identified by lichen plumes / P.J. Julig, and 3 others.

Title: Geoarchaeological importance of sub-Arctic bird perches dated by lee side turf mound accumulation and identified by lichen plumes / P.J. Julig, and 3 others.
Author(s): Julig, P. J.
Date: 2013.
In: Polar Record. (2013.), Vol. 49(251) (2013)
Abstract: Discusses importance of stratigraphic analysis of turf mounds as method for identifying presence of anthropogenic rock structures. Presents examples from field site in Norra Storfjället in sub-Arctic Sweden. Study of turf deposits stratigraphically overlying placement of stone structures such as Saami seite and Canadian inuksuit may become valuable geo-archaeological approach for determining minimum dates for erection of such structures.
