Record #205145:
Geoarchaeological importance of sub-Arctic bird perches dated by lee side turf mound accumulation and identified by lichen plumes / P.J. Julig, and 3 others.
Title: | Geoarchaeological importance of sub-Arctic bird perches dated by lee side turf mound accumulation and identified by lichen plumes / P.J. Julig, and 3 others. |
Author(s): | Julig, P. J. |
Date: | 2013. |
In: | Polar Record. (2013.), Vol. 49(251) (2013) |
Abstract: | Discusses importance of stratigraphic analysis of turf mounds as method for identifying presence of anthropogenic rock structures. Presents examples from field site in Norra Storfjället in sub-Arctic Sweden. Study of turf deposits stratigraphically overlying placement of stone structures such as Saami seite and Canadian inuksuit may become valuable geo-archaeological approach for determining minimum dates for erection of such structures. |
