Abstract: General introduction to current research into cultural importance of wood in North American Arctic. From 1990s, importance of Arctic wood and driftwood has been noted in many environmental, archaeological and linguistic studies. Researchers have taken multidisciplinary approach, integrating local traditional knowledge with their own results to aid interpretation.
