Record #204767:
Surface reflectance characteristics of Langjökull, Iceland / Ed Pope.
Title: | Surface reflectance characteristics of Langjökull, Iceland / Ed Pope. |
Author(s): | Pope, Ed. |
Date: | 2013. |
Abstract: | Uses various retrieval methods to derive broadband surface albedo from ATM, ETM+ and MODIS radiance data collected during August 2007. Dataset and transect analyses show that most precise methods are FLAASH (ATM), and dark pixel or 6S atmospheric correction (ETM+). MODIS data was in broad agreement, but with significant differences depending on spatial resolution and extent, and reduced correlation for larger sample size. At smallest scale, bias towards representing certain areas in individual pixels prevented ETM+ and MODIS imagery from averaging highly variable surfaces. Low resolution instruments overestimated albedo in accumulation area, greatly underestimated it in firn zone, and struggled to capture variability in ablation zone. Favours ETM+ imagery for surface albedo monitoring as most correlated with ATM data. |
