Record #204747:

The security implications of climate change in the Arctic Ocean / Kristian Åtland.

Title: The security implications of climate change in the Arctic Ocean / Kristian Åtland.
Author(s): Åtland, Kristian.
Date: 2013.
Publisher: Dordrecht: Springer
In: Environmental security in the Arctic Ocean. (2013.),
Abstract: Considers potential impacts of dramatic changes currently taking place in and around Arctic basin (ice melting, sea level rise, permafrost thaw and coastal erosion) on security situation of Arctic coastal states. Changes raise concerns not only for environmental security, but also for dynamics of Arctic inter-state relations. In some scenarios, climate change may serve as "instability accelerator" and aggravate tensions between states over issues such as access to offshore hydrocarbon resources, marine natural resources and shipping lanes.
