Abstract: Presents archaeological account of life cycle of Coldfoot, small mining town in Arctic Alaska. Describes six building foundations, and considers artefactual evidence (supplemented by oral histories) of three distinct phases in town's existence in late 19th-early 20th centuries. At first, it served as central distribution point for local mining district, then secondary distribution point, and finally transfer-supply point.
