Record #204318:

Adaptations to aquatic risks due to climate change in Pangnirtung, Nunavut / Audrey R. Giles, and 4 others.

Title: Adaptations to aquatic risks due to climate change in Pangnirtung, Nunavut / Audrey R. Giles, and 4 others.
Author(s): Giles, Audrey R.
Date: 2013.
In: Arctic. (2013.), Vol. 66(2) (2013)
Abstract: Examines how residents of Pangnirtung, Nunavut, perceive risks of aquatic activities in context of adaptation to changing climate, using vulnerability framework. Findings suggest that community members identify climate change as increasing risk of many aquatic activities and have adapted some practices accordingly. However, further adaptation is impeded by three main barriers: financial constraints; Inuit resistance to adopting "Euro-Canadian" water safety practices; and issues with design of flotation devices.
