Browning of the landscape of interior Alaska based on 1986-2009 Landsat sensor NDVI / Rebecca A. Baird, David Verbyla, Teresa N. Hollingsworth.

Title: Browning of the landscape of interior Alaska based on 1986-2009 Landsat sensor NDVI / Rebecca A. Baird, David Verbyla, Teresa N. Hollingsworth.

Publisher: [Ottawa]: NRC Research
Abstract: Report on measurement of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) within Bonanza Creek Experimental Forest, northern Alaska, using time series of 1986-2009 Landat sensor data. Significant declining trends in mean NDVI were found in dominant landscape types of floodplains, lowlands and uplands, including black spruce (Picea mariana) among forest classes. Within Tanana River floodplain, balsam poplar (Populus balsamifera) alone remained relatively unaffected. Consistent long-term decline in NDVI may be due to regional climatic shift in 1970s.
