Navigating an ice-free Arctic: Russia's policy in the Northern Sea Route in an era of climate change / Lincoln E. Flake.
Title: | Navigating an ice-free Arctic: Russia's policy in the Northern Sea Route in an era of climate change / Lincoln E. Flake. |
Author(s): | Flake, Lincoln E. |
Date: | 2013. |
Publisher: | London: Routledge |
Abstract: | Discussion on freedom of navigation in Arctic waters in light of climate change. Russia's self-proclaimed and long-standing claim to Northern Sea Route is likely increasingly to clash with other interested governments and foreign navies as receding sea ice makes Arctic seaborne logistics viable. Issue of freedom of navigation could pose greater risk to Arctic stability than better-known disputes, such as seabed claims. |
