Abstract: Describes historic accounts of Maori relationship to Antarctic through Polynesian oral history account of voyage of Hui-Te-Rangiora around 650 A.D., and of Tamarereti to discover secrets of the aurora. Discusses lack of Maori involvement in New Zealand Antarctic Expediitons; use of Maori place-names in Antarctica; Maori approaches to resource management; and possible opportunities for Maori artists to join Artists to Antarctic programme.
