Record #203478:

Aboriginality and the Arctic north in Canadian nationalist superhero comics, 1940-2004 / Jason Dittmer, Soren Larsen.

Title: Aboriginality and the Arctic north in Canadian nationalist superhero comics, 1940-2004 / Jason Dittmer, Soren Larsen.
Author(s): Dittmer, Jason.
Larsen, Soren.
Date: 2010.
Publisher: [Washington, DC]: Association of American Geographers
Abstract: Study of construction of aboriginality and Arctic North in formation of Canadian national identity through analysis of superhero comics. Changes in representation of indigenous population between World War II and 2004 reflected shifts in Canada's post-colonial politics, while retaining quasi-mystical attitude towards North. However, superhero comics in general reinforced anxieties of white southern Canadians towards North and native peoples.
